246 reported cases of family violence in Palmy in one month... that's just not okay.
Palmerston North City Council, NZ Police and local agencies joined together as part of an initiative to lower the level of family violence in our city. The local campaign was aimed at young people to raise awareness of the issue and the steps they can take to help reduce the problem.
A national campaign featured former abuser Vic Tamati, running for some time, got people talking about and taking action against family violence. The message behind the local campaign is
the same, but is supported by local celebrities.
Schools are invited to ask Vic
Tamati to speak to their children about his experiences growing up with, and
later committing, family violence. Now violence free, Vic speaks from the heart
and shows that family violence can be turned around. He visits the Manawatu at
the end of October.
If you would like Vic to visit your school please email us here.
