What is Tools for Schools?

Tools for Schools is a service to encourage people up to the age of 25 to look at the career options  available for employment and  training in trades and applied technology.

If you need information on trades or technology careers, what kind of trade could be a good job for you and how to get started, contact Tools for Schools

Equally if you are a trade employer struggling to get new employees into your business there are a number of ways that Tools for Schools can target young people and promote your business.

What are trades?

Trades covers a lot more than you imagine! 40 industry training organizations cover over 130 different recognized trade and technology qualifications.

Jobs such as aeronautical engineer, Farmer, Telecommunications  technician, Electrical Line mechanic, Green keeper, bakers, mechanical engineers, florists, clothing manufacturers, retail manager, saw doctor, orchardist, hotel manager, Road construction worker, butcher, joiner, printer, chef, tour bus operator… the list goes on.

For a comprehensive list of trades and possible jobs,  click here http://www.itf.org.nz/list-of-itos.html

Why go into trades?

We live in a highly technical world where you need skills and knowledge to move forward in the employment world. Apprenticeships and other qualifications, learning while on the job are a great way to get an interesting and rewarding career. Did you know that qualified trades people across a range of trades are highly sought after by employers and a qualified trades person earns more at the end of three years than a university graduate You will also be unlikely to have a student loan!
